iPhone 14 Plus release date, price, specs and features
The iPhone 14 Plus has been announced at Apple’s ‘Far Out’ event, and this heavily rumored phone is basically exactly what we expected - a bigger version of the iPhone 14, which has also been announced - as has the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7-inch screen, improved cameras, and a variety of new features, including Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via Satellite. Below you'll find everything you need to know about this intriguing new handset, including the specs and features, plus the release date and price. iPhone 14 Plus release date and price

(Image credit: Apple) The iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7-inch 1284 x 2778 Super Retina XDR OLED screen with 458 pixels per inch,y8 a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, plus support for HDR and Dolby Vision. The phone looks much like current iPhones, complete with a notch, but it's built to last, with an aerospace-grade aluminum frame, Ceramic Shield protection on the front, and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. It's available in a choice of five colors - Blue, Purple, Midnight, Starlight, and Product Red. The dimensions are 160.8 x 78.1 x 7.8mm, and it weighs 203g. Apple has also talked up the environmental credentials of this phone, saying that there's 100% recycled gold in the wire of the cameras, and 90% or more fiber-based packaging. iPhone 14 Plus camera and battery
(Image credit: Apple) The iPhone 14 Plus's cameras include a 12MP f/1.5 main camera with a larger sensor than its predecessor and big 1.9 micron pixels. This camera includes Sensor Shift optical image stabilization (OIS) and Apple claims it offers superb low light performance. Alongside the main lens there's also a 12MP f/2.4 ultra-wide camera with a 120-degree field-of-view. Plus there's a new 'Photonic Engine', which can combine images for an improved result, and a brighter True Tone flash than before. The front camera is a 12MP f/1.9 True Depth one. That's a larger aperture than before, allowing for up to 2x better low light performance, and it finally includes autofocus, which we haven't seen on iPhone selfie cameras in the past. Video should be better too, with a new Action Mode keeping things stable, and there's support for Dolby Vision and HDR. You can record video in up to 4K quality at up to 60fps. You can also record in 4K at 24fps friv - which is the standard frame rate in movies. As for the battery life, Apple claims it offers all-day life. More specifically, you'll apparently get up to 26 hours of video playback, 20 hours of streamed video, or 100 hours of audio. You can also get a 50% charge in 30 minutes with a 20W or higher charger (sold separately). Plus there's 15W MagSafe charging, and 7.5W Qi wireless charging. iPhone 14 Plus specs and features
(Image credit: Apple) The iPhone 14 Plus has an A15 Bionic chipset - the same one as the iPhone 13 Pro, so this might not overly impress on the power front. That said, it's had a bit of an upgrade since last year, with improved thermal efficiency, so expect a small performance boost. It includes a six-core CPU, a five-core GPU, and a 16-core neural engine. Unsurprisingly the phone also supports 5G, runs iOS 16 and has Face ID for security. The iPhone 14 Plus also sports Crash Detection, which allows it to detect if you're in a serious car crash and automatically contact the emergency services and an emergency contact. One surprise is that not only is there eSIM support, but all US models will lack a SIM tray. So presumably it will be fully reliant on eSIM there. There's also an Emergency SOS via Satellite feature, which allows you to send messages when there's no mobile signal - such as out in the wilderness or during a natural disaster when networks are down. This service also allows you to share your location via Find My. It's launching in November - though initially only for the US and Canada - and it will be free for two years. Unsurprisingly the iPhone 14 Plus includes MagSafe too, and - while not specifically an iPhone 14 Plus feature - Apple used this phone's announcement to reveal that Apple Fitness Plus will soon be available for iPhone users - without needing friv 200 an Apple Watch.
